Orissa Joint Entrance Examination

R.E.C Rourkela was the first one to conduct the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) for the candidates of the state quota of Orissa in 1979. In 1979, there were only two engineering colleges in Orissa namely R.E.C Rourkela (Now NIT Rourkela) and University College of Engineering (U.C.E.), Burla.  In later years CET Bhubaneswar, Indira Gandhi Institute of Technology (IGIT), Sarang and Institute of Textile Technology, Choudwar also involved since 1994.  At that time JEE covered candidates for MBBS/BDS courses in S.C.B Medical College, Cuttack, M.K.C.G. Medical College, Berhampur and V.S.S Medical College, Burla also.

 

From 2003 onwards, Biju Patnaik University of Technology has become the conducting body of JEE in the state of Orissa or in Orissa JEE .The salient features of “The Orissa Professional Educational Institutions (Regulation of Admission and Fixation of Fee) Act, 2007” are as follows.

 

 

Methods of Admission in Professional Educational Institutions:

 

Subject to provisions of this Act, admission of students in all private professional educational institutions, Government institutions and sponsored institutions to all seats including lateral entry seats, shall be made through JEE conducted by the Policy Planning Body followed by counselling in order of merit, in accordance with such procedure as recommended by the said body and approved by the Government of Orissa.

 

In a private professional educational institution other than minority institution not exceeding 5% of the approved intake may be filled up by NRI from the merit list prepared on the basis of JEE as per AICTE guideline issued in this regard. Where any shortfall in filling up of seats from NRI occurs, such vacant seats may be filled up from the merit list of Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) or NEET, as the case may be, conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education: Provided that while filling up such vacant seats NRI shall be preferred. In a private professional educational institution 15% of the approved in take may be filled up strictly from the merit list of All India Engineering Entrance Examination or All India Medical Entrance Examination, as the case may be, conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education.

 

Prohibition of Capitation fee : No capitation fee shall be collected by a professional educational institution or by any person who is in charge of the management of such institution, from any candidate in consideration of his admission to or continuance in any course of study or his promotion to higher class in such institution under the management.
