Biology

Systematic study of all forms of life around us including man, plants and animals and all other living things is known as biology. Further Biology is study about the various conditions in which different forms of life grow and die and how to bring about qualitative and quantitative changes under controlled conditions. Biology has a number of branches which necessitate. specialised study like Botany, Zoology, MicrobIology, which in turn also have sub-divisions. Speaking in terms of the utility of the study of Biology, it can solve the problem of over population, disease and shortage of food, etc.
Botany is one of the important branches of Biology. What does a Botanist do? It is basically the study of origin, development, structure and reproduction of plant life including forestry, agriculture, horticulture etc. The study is facilitated by the use of laboratory where formation of cells and tissues is studied with the help of 'microscope. The study of botany helps us to know the effect of environmental factors on the growth of plants. Through botany better growth of plants and trees that are useful to the mankind can be ensured.
Zoology is another important branch of Biology. It is the study of animals origin, evolution, classification, structure, disease, environment, growth, behavior, life processes, etc. The job of a zoologist involves observing animals in their natural living places on land or water, to study them (often by dissecting them) to know about their various systems like nervous, reproduction, circulatory functioning, anatomy of.

Personal attributes

In General, those who desire to make their career in bIology or life As a basic Researcher, a biologist is expected to reveal fundamental facts In other words they attempt to transfer the unknown into the known. You may go for one or more specialties in the field according to your abilities and liking.
Ecologist is an expert in ecology that is the study of relation of plants and living creatures to each other and to their environment. An ecologist studies the effect of atmosphere and environment on the growth of plant or animal life. His work also includes studying the influence of rainfall, temperature, altitude, type of food available for development etc. He classifies drought resistant areas or type of fodder, and suitable pastures. He introduces and cultivates special varieties of plant, grass, weeds etc. He• may conduct their studies in experimental farms or laboratories under natural and controlled conditions to watch effect of climatic conditions on crops, plants, animals. Ecologist is also concerned about the geographical distribution of plants with a view to replant them under different conditions to improve swamps, deserts and marshy lands.
Geneticist is a specialist in genetics which is the scientific study of the ways• in which different characteristics are passed from each generation of living things to the next. Specializes in the study of factors of heredity. It involves research work, the way various biological characteristics are transmitted from generation to generation. Basically geneticist is concerned with the improvement of plants and animal breeds of economic importance. He conducts experiments in laboratories and farm houses on crops and animals with sufficient rapidity to find out heredity traits.
Cytologist conducts research in the field of cell formation, amongst Pt ants and animals. He studies formation, growth, functions, diseases e etc of cells of all living things. He relates his findings to breeding and reproduction of plants and animals carrying particular characteristics or hereditary traits. Mostly his work is by choosing he am parts of the body of living things for microscopic study and he employs stain techniques to make cell structures visible or to differentiate parts for study. He searches for physical and chemical factors favorable for growth of cells. He looks out for such factors

Mycologist: Mycology is the science or study of fungi (fungus). The job of a mycologist is related to techniques of control of fungi. In order to study the structure and causes of growth of fungi, he collects specimens of fungi and conducts microscopic observations in a laboratory. He classifies certain varieties. By-products of fungus activity are analysed with a view to evolving new strains of fungi. Chemical or other methods are used to control multiplication of fungus.

Entomologist: Entomology is the scientific study of insects and an entomologist is an expert in entomology. An entomologist is concerned to eliminate creatures which damage plants, trees and fruits. He visits fields and collects identifies and classifies different types of insects and pests. He suggests various techniques to destroy them through insecticides or other means.

Parasitologist Living things have their parasites which live on the blood of others. Amongst them are protozoans, round worms, tape worms, liver flukes. Parasitologist is the person who evolves measures to control them and treat parasitic infections. He collects specimens of various kinds and studies them under laboratory conditions with particular reference to their characteristics, behavior, habits and their methods of attack on human and animal kingdom:

Pisciculturist: He is a fishery expert. He conducts experiments on fish culture  and collects data concerning their habits, growth, f h breed.ng etc. Pisciculturist also rears and breeds fish through artificial methods.

Physiologist: Physiology is the scientific study of the normal functions of living things and a physiologist is an expert in the he sues physiology. He studies normal functioning of the organs and tissues and of plants. He investigates into functioning of various systems and factors that hinder their normal working. He looks into environmental conditions like temperature, altitude, humidity etc. Biologists engaged in applied research translate basic knowledge into practical useful products and processes. These scientists work closely with agricultural, medical, industrial and other scientists who are not precisely aware of the impact of biology on human needs.

Agronomist: Agronomy is the science concerned with relationship between crops and their environment. An agronomist's job involves ways to increase crop production through scientific techniques.

Forest Officer and Forest Ranger: Their job is to maintain, manage and protect forests and also generate revenues by way of growing trees. Usually their appoints are made through Public Service Commissions.

Horticulturist: Horticulture is the art, study or practice of growing flowers, fruit and vegetables; gardening (garden). Horticulturist works and takes care of the gardens, orchards, nurseries with a view to growing fruits, flowers, vegetables, trees and ornamental bushes. State and Central Public Works Departments. Town and Country Planning Departments, Community Development Blocks, Indian Council of Agricultural Research, Food Research Laboratories etc. are the usual employers of Horticulturists.
Plant Breeder (who grows improved varieties of plants in relation. of size, quality, yield and resistance to disease and cross breed various varieties under field or laboratory conditions).
Veterinarian (who looks after prevention and cure of animal diseases)
Wild-Life Managers (who maintain zoos).
Regional Botanist (who is concerned with conducting and guiding work pertaining to plant introduction, breeding hybridization, raising and propagation of vegetable life in the experimental gardens).
Systematic Botanist (who conducts floristic survey of the regions concerned, prepares field notes and ecological data for publication and also publishes literature on flora)
Keeper Herbarium (who is a responsible for the running of the Herbarium in its scientific and administrative aspects)
Pharmacognosist (who examines the microscopic structure of plant parts and reports on the active principles of medicinal plants)
Orchidologist (who is in-charge of orchidarium in botanical gardens).
